In college, I earned credits as the campus darkroom tech, and I worked as a gallery/darkroom manager at Vermont Center for Photography in 2004-2005, which exposed me to extraordinary people, such as Rebecca Lepkoff, who have deep roots in photography. Several were my teachers and mentors whose influences I mostly failed to appreciate at the time.
In 2006, I undertook a story in photographs that centered on a complex, outstanding character in northern Maine. I completed a photo-essay now permanently part of the archive at Maine College of Art. This story emerged as part of my post-graduate work at Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. Most photos were shot on Fuji Neopan black-and-white film and printed on Ilford MGIV fiber-based paper.
Some of these photos appeared in PRIVATE Italia: International Review of Black and White Photographs and Texts, No. 38, Autumn 2007. Stories from the USA.
